Redefining expectations

FINE Print Head Technology:

FINE high-density print head technology combines high resolution and high printing speed.

This feat was accomplished by merging high precision jets with ink-spray technology that delivers the ink consistently with high precision, onto the media.

Seven Dye-Based Inks:

In addition to CMYK, DreamLabo 5000 employs photo cyan, photo magenta and gray dye-based inks to reproduce wider ranging shades and achieve more precise color control. These seven dye-based inks deliver color and B&W photos with extra smooth gradations. Thanks to gray ink, stable color reproduction and less color cast can be realized.

Vivid Color Expression Achieved Through a Combination of Genuine Canon Paper and Ink:

The genuine Canon paper recommended for DreamLabo 5000 absorbs ink more quickly and less deeply than regular photo paper. This quick, shallow ink fixation results in higher ink density and more vivid color expression that can maintain its quality for about 300 years*. *

* 1. Estimated print-life for dark storage
(Test methods and criteria for estimation)
The image permanence data expressed in numbers of years are estimated based on test methods and criteria written in “Digital Color Photo Print Stability Evaluation” (JEITA CP-3901) standard issued by JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association).

(Note for printing and displaying photos)
The actual image permanence might be different from the estimates presented above depending on display/storage conditions. The numbers of years are calculated from the results of accelerated tests conducted by Canon Inc. and do not represent a product guarantee. Making your printed images last longer: Exposure to light, environmental gases, high temperature and humidity may accelerate color fading. During storage and display, avoiding those fading factors is effective to promote the image permanence of your photos.

Exceptional Productivity Levels

High-Speed Printing with a Single Pass:

In its quest for greater speed and efficiency compared to traditional inkjet printing, Canon developed accelerated one-pass photo printing. This feature uses seven fixed line print heads and 2400dpi high-density jets that rapidly eject large quantities of ink to print in a single pass. Remarkably, it can produce 8″x10″ photos at a rate of 1,180 copies per hour.

Standard Double-Sided Printing Eliminates Manual Process:

The DreamLabo 5000 Printer features automatic double-sided printing, which is especially convenient when printing photo albums and on-demand two-sided documents. It requires about 72 seconds to print a 20- page 8.27″x11.69″ photo album or one hour to print 50 such photo albums. In addition, accurate print position control is realized by reading the registration mark with the built-in high resolution scanner.*

Double Paper Magazines Enable Paper Changes While Printing:

The DreamLabo 5000 automatically feeds paper from a second roll when the first roll is used up. The empty roll can be replaced during printing without interrupting the print job or workflow. Roll paper of widths between 5 inches (127mm) and 12 inches (305mm) are supported. An optional paper deck may be added giving an additional two paper magazines, bringing the total to four. This will give you longer printing sessions (up to 3,066.67 feet length) or printing of up to four different sizes without changing rolls.

Double Ink Tank System:

The unique double ink tank system helps prevent downtime by allowing ink tanks to be changed even while printing. The ink is piped from the main ink tank to a buffer tank, then into the printhead. Printing can continue even when the main ink tank is empty and can be changed without interrupting the print job or workflow.

Double Sorting Allows Sorting by Order or Paper Size:

Double sorting system enhances work efficiency by allowing output to be sorted by job order or paper size. For example, print jobs using paper less than 6″(152mm) wide can automatically be output to the smaller 10-bin sorter, while larger paper is output to the larger 10-bin sorter.

Double Auto Cutting Eliminates Manual Cutting Process:

A standard double automatic cutter automatically cuts both sides of every photo with speed and precision during the printing process. The manual cutting process can therefore be skipped for greater convenience and efficiency.

Designed for Lengthy Continuous Operation, Minimal Maintenance, with Inkjet Photo Imaging Technology:

The DreamLabo 5000 incorporates an easy-maintenance design that enables users to perform periodic maintenance procedures, such as the user replacement of expendable parts.* Accordingly, the system minimizes printing down-time. The DreamLabo 5000 ink jet process eliminates the need to dispose of processing chemistries or come in direct contact with chemicals. Moreover, the inks in the system have no irritating odor, which contributes to a comfortable operating environment.

Environmental Impact

Digital Photo Image Enhancement System (Optional):

Various image enhancement functions automatically analyze the image and make suitable adjustments depending on the type of scene. This dramatically reduces the time and effort required to manually adjust brightness in specific areas; correct a color cast, face complexion or red eye; optimally adjust the image based on type of scene, etc. Upon request, Canon can customize color output to match that of another printer or meet other specific customer requirements.
